April 13th, 2010. Data services for IsatPhone Pro

Inmarsat has announced the availability of data services on its global handheld satellite phone, IsatPhone Pro.

The new circuit-switched data capability, offering an effective data rate of up to 20kbps, was provided in the most recent firmware upgrade to the handset.

"IsatPhone Pro is ideally suited for use as a data service," said Drew Brandy, director of land services at Inmarsat.

"The handset design means the IsatPhone Pro can be simply placed on its side with the antenna deployed for connection to the satellite while a micro USB cable connects it to a laptop. And the Inmarsat-4 satellites on which the service runs are, of course, designed specifically to handle data communications.”

"In testing we have actually exceeded 20kbps throughput with plain text e-mail on several occasions. It's ideal for those people wanting to access e-mails, jpegs, documents or PDFs."

Following the launch of the data service MVS announcing their own software enhancements to take advantage of the new capabilities.

MVS has introduced its FlyCarrier 2.6.39 software application for use with the handheld satellite phone, to manage data services such as e-mail.

FlyCarrier provides up to 15 times faster e-mail transfers and up to 75 per cent airtime savings compared with uncompressed IsatPhone Pro data speeds.

The company technical specialists say it has adapted its FlyCarrier system to optimise the phone’s data capability.

The IsatPhone Pro firmware upgrade required, v. 4.0.0, and MVS mail software v. 2.6.39 are available via MVS web site.

August 30th, 2010. The Roads that we choose: Photo report of «SCF Baltica's» North Sea voyage

Arctic voyage of “SCF Baltica” tanker has ended. The Tanker sailed through the Barents & Kara Seas. During the voyage, the new INMARSAT satellite phone, provided by MORSVIAZSPUTNIK, has been tested as the communications tool.

In his summary of the results of the “Baltica” voyage during the press conference in Pevek Sergey Frank, the Geneal Director of Sovkomflot has stated that the concept of using the large carriers for transporting energy fuel from Barents and Kara Seas to the markets of South East Asia as an economy of scale has proven to be viable. “SCF Baltica” left the port of Murmansk on 14’th of August. However the destination target of the trip was Jamal peninsula, more precisely – cape Drovyanoy” . It is almost the same meridian as cape “Zhelaniya”. “SCF Baltica” reached the cape on August 16th.

"There is no doubt our cargo will be delivered accordingly– noticed the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Novatek Leonid Michelson.Novatek is now working on an investment program for the construction of the liquefied gas plant on the Jamal peninsula.. The finalization of this programme shall allow to conduct regular LNG voyages, stated Mr Michelson, reminding of the pending construction of the liquefied gas plant

June 30th, 2010. Australian Forced Routing announcement

Wednesday 30th June 2010, Inmarsat will enable domestic routing in the Australian region. This means that IP traffic for BGAN, Fleet Broadband and Swift Broadband will be subject to legal intercept by the Australian government. The change will only be made for packet switched (IP data) traffic and will not affect circuit switched (voice) traffic.

MVS has taken precautionary measures to ensure that customers can keep using their IP terminals in the Australian region without having to change any settings or noticing any degradation on performance. However, the implementation of this solution has not been completely finished. We anticipate this to take another three weeks. During these three weeks, IP traffic to and from your BGAN, Fleet Broadband or Swift Broadband terminal will not be possible if the physical location of your terminal is inside Australia.

Should you need an IP connection on your broadband terminal while in Australia in the next three weeks, we have a workaround available. This workaround can have severe (financial) consequences if used inappropriately.

Please contact our support department to learn about this workaround and its consequences.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused. We would like to assure you that MVS are committed to providing the best user experience in satellite broadband networking and we will have a solution in place as soon as possible that will work seamlessly and transparently for all customers.

Доброго времени суток!
